How Switchable Films Work
Switchable film can change from opaque to transparent at the push of a button. This is possible because SONTE Smartfilm contains a liquid crystal layer (PDLC) that becomes transparent when an electrical voltage is applied. The self-adhesive smart film is applied directly to existing glass panes, with the electrical wiring discreetly installed within the frame.
SONTE Smartfilm is also referred to as electrochromic film and offers an exceptionally long service life. Both the durability of the film itself and the smart film functionality are designed for long-term use. The switchable film can be turned on and off several hundred thousand times without wear. It operates at a low voltage of just 45 V, ensuring the highest level of operational safety.
